Summer Days Gone

The summer slipped by so fast, partly because I took a new j-o-b and partly because I’ve been volunteering with the Obama Campaign here in Virginia Beach. I’ve been so busy with both that I’ve had to make time for my photography. Somehow, our family managed to find time to enjoy each other and relax, spending a few lazy Sundays at our favorite local dog beach and enjoying meals in the cool shade of an umbrella on our back deck. Just today, Mitch and I stole away for a motorcycle ride up to Williamsburg, which turned out to be a perfect road trip made better by delicious gourmet sandwiches and wine at a cost less than we expected. We strolled the streets afterwards, me stumbling about a bit from my two glasses, and laughed at ourselves. Today was a delight here in Virginia, with a blue sky, billowy clouds, and pleasant temperatures.

Next year, Eden will be off on her own. My butterfly’s wings are nearly dried out, now, almost ready to take her far away. I cherish every family moment we have, especially those when we truly enjoy each other. Here’s a photo I captured of one of those moments. After I set up the tripod and put on the timer, we made several attempts at getting the perfect shot. Each time, I clicked the shutter and ran, trying to time the shutter closing with the rush of the water around us. The laughter that ensued brought the greatest pleasure of that day. And this photo will forever remind me of one of Eden’s last moments at home with us.

An Angel

This little angel blessed my shoot yesterday. She fluttered around the room, casting tiny angel spells on a variety of unsuspecting items, a hair brush, a cell phone, my camera flash. (more…)

A portrait photographer depends upon another person to complete his picture. The subject imagined, which in a sense is me, must be discovered in someone else willing to take part in a fiction he cannot possibly know about.
